Battlefield Acupuncture for Pain Management after Hip Surgery

      Pain is very common among US adults over 65 years old; 45-80% of nursing home residents have substantial pain. Current pain management is medication based, especially narcotics. Pain management is challenging in the elderly population as they are at higher risk to experience side effects, and it gets harder when assessing pain in cognitively impaired elderly patients. We present a nonpharmacological treatment for a demented patient who suffered from severe postoperative pain.
