“Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe”: Prioritizing Medications on the Prescription as an Unexplored Avenue Towards Optimizing Geriatric Pharmacotherapy

As clinicians practicing in the field of geriatric care, we are interested in the research perspectives that may help us to improve practices in terms of prescription, dispensing, administration, and follow-up of medications in elderly patients. In this regard, we read with avid interest the recent article by Tan et al, outlining research priorities for optimizing geriatric pharmacotherapy.

In their article, reporting an expert consensus further to an international workshop, Tan et al propose a range of areas that merit particular research focus, including overuse/underuse/misuse of medications, deprescribing and regimen simplification, and understanding and informing prescribing in patients with multimorbidity and polypharmacy.
