Older patients residing in institutions, who are predisposed to frequent hospitalizations,
invasive procedures, and repeated antibiotic use, are at higher risk for bacterial
infections. The most common infection in a long-term care facility (LTCF) is an urinary
tract infection (UTI) mainly caused by multidrug-resistant (MDR) gram-negative rods
(GNR).
