Care workers in nursing homes cannot always carry out all necessary nursing interventions
because of time constraints, lack of resources, or other organizational or personal
factors. This failure is included within the concept of unfinished nursing care, which
comprises missed care, implicit rationing of nursing care, and care left undone.

In nursing homes, residents' pronounced dependency on physical, psychological, and
sociocultural care makes them especially vulnerable to implicit rationing, which intensifies
with cognitive impairment and social isolation. Based on previous studies in nursing
homes, psychosocial care and mobilization are often omitted when resources are scarce.

To date, though, most studies of unfinished nursing care have focused on nurses'
perspectives in acute care. Few have explored how care workers' and residents' experiences
