JAMDA mourns the loss of Dr Kathryn Hyer, who passed away January 1, 2021, at the age of
67. Dr Hyer was Professor and Associate Director in the School of Aging Studies at
the University of Southern Florida, the Director of the Florida Policy Exchange Center
on Aging, and the recent President of the Gerontological Society of America. She served
as an Associate Editor of JAMDA, reviewing numerous submissions and contributing to over a dozen papers published
in the Journal on a range of topics, including infection control and hurricane safety
policies in nursing homes and assisted living communities.
